COMPREHENSIVE

DENTAL EXAM

A comprehensive dental exam includes checking for cavities and gum disease, the bite, development of teeth, and jaw alignment. The exam may also indicate that digital dental radiographs(x-rays) and/or panaromaic films be taken. Our doctors will discuss with you all findings and treatment needs. You will also receive information on how to prevent decay and gum disease, properly care for your child’s teeth, and nutritional recommendations.

YOUR BABY'S 1ST

APPOINTMENT

Along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics, we recommend that children have their first dental appointment around their first birthday. This is a time to check the development of your child’s teeth, examine the oral cavity and discuss feeding habits, oral habits, and oral hygiene instructions. Information on teething, dental development, infant oral health and nutrition will be provided.

We want to help your baby build a strong foundation for a lifetime of healthy teeth and a beautiful smile.

CLEANINGS &

FLOURIDE TREATMENT

Dental cleaning and fluoride treatment are usually completed for children of age 3 and older. This includes removal of hard calculus and soft plaque and polishing.  We use the tell-show-do method and make sure that we are gentle and friendly so that your child will feel comfortable.

NITROUS OXIDE &

IV SEDATION

Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is an easy and simple way to help children who feel anxious about dental treatment.  Nitrous oxide, always combined with oxygen, is a safe gas delivered through a small mask that fits over the nose to help the child relax. The child remains awake and responsive throughout the entire procedure and the effects wear off within minutes. It can also work well to reduce gagging for children who have a strong gag reflex. Before removing the mask completely, 100% oxygen is administered for several minutes to ensure the nitrous oxide is eliminated from the child’s body.

Intravenous Sedation (IV) is a way of completing dental care while a child is asleep. We may recommend IV sedation for children who have severe anxiety, special needs, or require extensive restorative treatment. A time is reserved in our office with a specialized dental anesthesiologist to complete all of the patient’s dental treatment needs in one visit. The anesthesiologist brings all necessary equipment to monitor and provide the best care possible.
